Cloudflare says it’s not to blame
Cloudflare told us it’s not responsible for the current issues on X, Reddit, Zoom and more.
“We are currently not seeing any global Cloudflare outages. The only issue we are aware of is that Zayo, a network provider, is experiencing an outage on some of its network routes,” a spokesperson told us.
“This may make some sites using Zayo exclusively inaccessible, whether they use Cloudflare or not. We see evidence that Zayo’s network is recovering and expect any errors to be short-lived,” they added.
So the mystery continues, but luckily all reporting on Downdetector for these sites has returned to baseline levels, so everything appears to be back to normal.
A return to normal…
Good news, it looks like the issues that hit X, Reddit, Zoom and more today were just a minor incident – and this won’t be a repeat of a major outage like the big Cloudflare incident of November 2025.
We don’t know for sure if today’s significant increase in reported issues was related to Cloudflare, but the cloud infrastructure giant confirmed it was investigating an issue earlier – and now says “a fix is being implemented.”
This fix seems to do the trick for many services, according to Downdetector – but I’ll continue to monitor them, just in case.
William Shatner captures the mood
When in doubt, turn to William Shatner: the actor captured what many experienced with a post on X showing the error message “Posts are not loading at this time.”
But how did he post his reaction when X is down? Well, the site seems to be recovering from its wobbles, with reports now below 10,000 in the US, so I’m confident that normal Shatner service will resume soon.
X still struggles for many
X appears to be on the mend, but this is definitely not his usual state. We can currently see the Trending section, but we don’t have a feed.
Reddit appears to be doing better, with reports on Downdetector now down to around 365 in the US (down from just over 3,000 half an hour ago).
These are promising signs, but I hope this isn’t a false dawn – and a number of other services like Zoom and Fortnite continue to have a significant number of reported issues.
Given how many services are currently seeing spikes in reported issues, there’s a good chance this is all related to cloud infrastructure issues.
We are currently seeing smaller spikes on Downdetector for Cloudflare and AWS, although there is no official confirmation that either is experiencing major issues.
However, Cloudflare is now experiencing “increased error rates” at 10:20 AM ET / 3:20 PM BST, which could be a potential cause given that X and Reddit are known to use it for their cloud-based content delivery.
A series of large peaks
Right now, X is apparently the most affected by the current issues, with almost 36,000 reports on Downdetector. But Reddit also appears to be struggling for many in the United States, with more than 3,000 reports.
This could be an outage or cloud infrastructure issue, as we’re seeing more minor spikes across a range of services, from Zoom to Fortnite and Canva. Is this related to a Cloudflare or AWS service? It’s not clear yet, but we’ll find out soon.
