Identity of Montreal shooting victims revealed: here’s who they are

The shooting that occurred in Montreal, in the Côte-des-Neiges borough, left a police officer and a civilian dead.

The shooting occurred Monday afternoon, June 22, after a gunman opened fire in an area near De Courtrai and Trans Island avenues.

This incident marks the first time in two decades that a Montreal police officer has lost his life in the line of duty.

The suspect opened fire, causing an encounter with Montreal police, killing two people, while passers-by took refuge in the surrounding area.

The police intervention began around 11:30 a.m., according to CBC News.

The shooting put the city on lockdown for several hours before cops cleared the area after the suspect was killed in a crossfire.

Montreal law enforcement believes this was a targeted attack against police.

Following the incident, Montreal police revealed the identities of the victims who lost their lives.

Mohaed Lamine Benredouane, 34, was named as the Montreal police officer who lost his life during the operation.

He joined the Montreal Police Service in 2021.

Quebec Internal Security Minister Ian Lafrenière described the incident as “the first fatal shooting of an officer in the city in 24 years.”

While the second police officer who was shot was transferred to hospital and is said to be in stable condition, according to Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher.

The civilian who was unable to survive the injuries caused by the tragic shooting was Michael Mizrahi.

However, authorities have not released the identity of the slain suspect, who is believed to have been involved in the shooting.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is leading the investigation into the events that occurred during the police arrest.
