QUETTA:
Four policemen were injured on Saturday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Dasht area of Mastung district, adjacent to Quetta.
According to police, unidentified assailants planted the explosive device along Mian Ghandi Link Road near Pir Wali. The explosion occurred as a police vehicle transporting prisoners from Dasht Court to Mastung Prison was passing the scene. The vehicle was partially damaged.
SHO Dasht Akhtar Muhammad confirmed that all four staff members sustained minor injuries. They received first aid on the scene and are said to be in stable condition, out of danger. Following the explosion, large contingents of security forces reached the site, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Separately, three people were seriously injured when explosive materials they were carrying on a motorbike accidentally exploded in the Zargona area near Khanuzai.
Police said the trio, identified as Zahoor, Faisal and Muhammad Afzal, were riding a motorcycle carrying blasting material from a local site when the substance suddenly exploded. The injured received initial medical treatment and were then transferred to Quetta in critical condition for further treatment.
Another tragic incident occurred when a family traveling from Quetta to Karachi came under terrorist fire, resulting in the death of the head of the family, a man, and serious injuries to his wife.
According to police, Ali Jamil was traveling to Karachi late at night with his wife and two young daughters. Misled by incorrect directions provided by Google Maps, the family inadvertently entered the remote Khand region of Dasht.
The terrorists signaled the vehicle to stop, but when the driver did not obey, the attackers opened fire. Ali Jamil was killed instantly. His wife was seriously injured, while the couple’s two young daughters miraculously escaped unhurt.
Upon receiving the report, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and the injured woman and shifted them to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The incident has once again highlighted security concerns along the Quetta-Karachi highway, especially in remote and less patrolled areas. Police have launched an investigation and efforts are underway to apprehend the attackers.
Similarly, the driver and security guard of Loralai Divisional Commissioner Wali Muhammad Barich were injured when his official vehicle overturned on Musa Khail Road near Kashpan due to high speed.
According to police, the commissioner was traveling to Loralai with his driver and guard when the vehicle lost control. Commissioner Barich remained unhurt. Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and transferred the injured to University Hospital for treatment.
