The 49-year-old actor shared the story during a recent interview with GQwhilst chatting to his Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney. Reynolds revealed he was just 18 years old when a drunk driver hit him on his way home to Vancouver.
He explained that he had been drinking and therefore made the decision not to drive his car.
“I came back and looked at my car for a second and thought, ‘You know what, I’m not going to drive anywhere, even if it’s four blocks from my house, absolutely not,'” Reynolds said.
THE Deadpool and Wolverine The actor then crossed the road where the accident occurred.
“I got hit by a drunk driver after making a decidedly positive and wise decision for an 18-year-old,” he recalls.
THE Free guy The star, however, added that he spent four weeks in hospital after the horrific accident.
“I spent four weeks in the hospital. I broke all the bones on my left side. He hit me so hard that his car was not operational,” he continued, while also thanking the doctor who treated him.
Additionally, Blake Lively’s husband also spoke about the accident in a 2011 interview, revealing that he was unconscious after the accident and woke up three days later in the hospital. Looking back on that life-changing moment, Ryan admitted, “I’ve been a rickety, broken mess ever since.”
