Cedric Alexander’s first defense of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s (TNA) X Division Championship took place at Slammiversary on Sunday night and he had the daunting task of retaining the title in an Ultimate X match.

This was the 55th Ultimate X match in TNA history with Alexander facing Amazing Red, Frankie Kazarian, Fabian Aichner, Leon Slater, KC Navarro and Mr. Elegance. This was also Red’s first appearance in a TNA ring in about 15 years. To win, the contestant had to climb one of the pillars, make their way onto the cables above the ring and grab the belt.

Alexander, Kazarian, Red and Aichner all attempted to win the belt at the same time. Alexander slipped and took out Aichner. Both Red and Kazarian fell to the mat. This allowed Red and Kazarian to showcase everything they had left in the tank. Elegance tried to take advantage of everyone being out of the ring, but Navarro cut his chances.

Red got in the ring with Navarro and delivered a Code Red. He then did the same thing with Kazarian. He tried to win the title but Slater caught him.

Slater gained momentum when he realized his path to the title was blocked. He scored a double blockbuster to eliminate Aichner, Elegance, Kazarian and Navarro. He then attempted to lead Red to the title in the middle of the cable line. Slater had taken down the belt as he and Red hung from the wires.

But Alexander got into the ring and stole the belt from Slater.

He was determined the winner as neither Slater nor Red touched the mat.
