Dragon House Stars Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith talked about one of the most important moments from the latest episode and what it means for Rhaenyra and Daemon moving forward.
The episode begins with Rhaenyra receiving heartbreaking news that her son and heir, Jace Targaryen, was killed during the Battle of Gullet.
By speaking to VarietyD’Arcy said filming the scene was emotionally difficult.
“I think the truth is that, for Rhaenyra, this is an insurmountable loss and a reality too terrible to contemplate,” D’Arcy said.
They added: “So the first feeling, the first instinct, is kind of total denial and trying to push away this terrible, emerging reality. It was a hard day at work.”
D’Arcy also praised Harry Collett, who plays Jace, saying he gave them space quietly before filming and then checked in to make sure they were okay.
At the end of the episode, Rhaenyra and Daemon finally take control of the Red Keep after the execution of Otto Hightower.
Even after everything that happened, however, D’Arcy believes that Rhaenyra still wants Alicent’s approval. “Rhaenyra always considers Alicent her judge and jury,” they explained.
Matt Smith also said that returning to film inside the Red Keep after spending so much time away was special.
“It was a bit like coming home,” he says.
