Fable will use the same engine as the Forza Horizon series, which Playground Games said was a “gift” for the upcoming role-playing game (RPG).
During a press Q&A session at an Xbox event adjacent to this year’s Summer Game Fest (SGF), attended by TechRadar Gaming, Associate Game Director Craig Littler explained how the team applied the Forza technological engine to create FableThe sprawling fantasy world of, as well as how it evolved certain elements.
“In terms of synergies with Forzaso we are on the same technological base, the same engine, the Forza technology engine,” he said, “and that’s been a real gift to us, because it’s the engine that we’ve been working on for over a decade at Playground, and it’s the great engine that produced the Forza Horizon series, and this is the engine we use to Fable Also.”
It’s not just the same technology reused, however. The developer explained that the team “built a ton of additional technology on top of” the base engine and had to move from a racing game to a character-based game.
“We had to invest heavily in locomotion and animation, and things like cutscenes and quests,” Litler added, “but in reality, the Forza The technology engine performs incredibly well for extremely high-fidelity graphics, as well as world-class streaming. And so for us, using this basis to Fable It’s just a match made in heaven, combined with our experience and, honestly, a team that is just huge fans of this franchise. »
He then confirmed that Peter Molyneux, the creator of the Fable series, was not involved in the development of the new title at all, stating: “He’s a legend, and we’ve played many of his games, but this is really Playground’s vision for Fable“.
Fable will officially launch on February 23, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Series S and PC.
