Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley have separated after less than three years of marriage, with sources revealing that communication difficulties and Antonoff’s peculiar way of doing things created tension between the couple.
A source said Page six that Antonoff “could be very particular about how he liked things” and that Qualley often felt like his views weren’t given equal weight.
“He often preferred things to be done the way he thought was best, and Margaret didn’t always feel like her point of view was heard or given equal weight,” the source said.
“Communication was definitely a challenge between him and Margaret.”
A separate source described the relationship with PEOPLE as “rocky,” with another noting that the couple is “figuring things out.” The separation was confirmed at Page six Wednesday.
The first public clue that something was wrong came when Antonoff attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s July 3 wedding without Qualley, accompanied by his sister Rachel at the July 2 rehearsal dinner and ceremony the next day.
Rumors swirled that Qualley was too busy filming to attend, but a source said TMZ Wednesday that it had already finished production on Snake King in June and was not expected to start his next project, Possessionuntil much later.
Looking back, there had been signals for months.
In April, Qualley changed her Instagram account from @isimostar, a reference to her husband’s song Isimo, to @sarahmargaretqualley23.
Fans also noticed that Bleachers had quietly removed the song Margaret, written about the actress, from their setlist; the last performance of the piece took place on June 13, according to Setlist.fm.
On Wednesday morning, Qualley deleted their wedding photos and deleted all traces of Antonoff from her Instagram, leaving only one image of the two of them laughing together from last February.
The two men always follow each other on the platform.
Antonoff was seen Wednesday still wearing his wedding ring.
The last time the couple was seen publicly together was at the Grammy Awards in February. They got married in August 2023.
