FIFA surprised football fans by releasing more than 1,000 tickets for the World Cup final on Friday, just ahead of the Spain-Belgium quarter-final.
The final, which seemed to be sold out a few days earlier, is scheduled to take place on July 19, 2026 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Newly issued tickets for 1,200 seats on the upper level cost approximately $7,380 each. The 68 lower deck seats cost between $19,995 and $32,970. Hospitality packages with food and drinks cost between $32,500 and $34,500. On the FIFA resale market, the price of tickets for the final ranges from around $7,440 up to $11.5 million.
The price of tickets for the World Cup has attracted strong criticism. Attorneys general from California, New York, New Jersey and Texas have raised concerns with FIFA and some have even opened an investigation into the matter, accusing the organization of misleading fans about the location and quality of seats.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino defended the prices, saying demand for this World Cup had increased tenfold or more compared to previous tournaments.
He pointed out that ticket prices start at just $60 and the average price for the entire tournament is just under $500, which he said is much cheaper than most American sports.
