AJK seeks additional federal forces

MUZAFFARABAD:

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has sought additional security forces from the federal government, citing the current law and order situation and ongoing protest activities of the banned Awami Joint Action Committee (Jaac).

The AJK Interior Ministry has sent a formal request to the Pakistan Interior Ministry, seeking immediate deployment of additional personnel to assist in maintaining peace and security in the region.

According to the request, the AJK government has requested deployment of 4,000 federal police personnel along with seven wings of Pakistan Rangers in the territory.

The Interior Ministry has urged the Federal Government to urgently provide additional forces, given the current security situation.

The letter states that public order has been affected by the protest activities of the banned Jaac. It also refers to an ongoing sit-in in Rawalakot and protest activities in other districts.

According to the communication, four members of the security forces were martyred while 174 others were injured during the unrest.

The AJK government has also requested that additional security personnel be equipped with weapons and anti-riot gear to deal effectively with any law and order situation.

Describing the situation as serious, he said the immediate deployment of additional federal forces had become essential to maintain peace and ensure public safety in the region.
