World champion of Russian artistic skaters aboard the flight involved in the open -air collision, says Kremlin

Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naunov were a pair of Russian figure skating that participated in several Olympic games and was laid in several world championships.

The Kremlin said Thursday that the artistic skating stars were one of those aboard an American Airlines flight that collided with an American army helicopter near Reagan international airport on Wednesday evening.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Shishkova and Naumov were on the plane.

“Unfortunately, we see that this sad information is confirmed. There were other citizens’ colleagues there. Today, from Washington.”, He said.

It was Naunov’s coach who presented the couple in 1985, wanting them to work together despite Naumov who pushed the idea at the start. They started working together in 1987 and competed and won bronze at the 1991 European Championships while representing the former Soviet Union. The pair would win two other bronze and money medals in the event.

Shishkova and Naumov also obtained distinctions on the world scene. At the 1993 world championships, the two won a bronze medal. The following year in Chiba, Japan, the two resumed their first gold medal. They finished with money in 1995 in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom.

The couple participated in the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville, France, and in the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. They finished fifth in 1992 and fourth in 1994.

Shishkova and Naumov married in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1995, and they moved to Connecticut. They had a son, Maxim, who participated in male singles in the United States
