It’s officially summer vacation season in the northern hemisphere (sorry, Australia and New Zealand readers), and that means it’s time to turn on the TV for the kids before heading off on a family vacation.
However, you won’t want to stick any of the following new movies or TV shows on them. None of them are family friendly, so I advise you to download something else from one of the best streaming services in the world.
However, once they’re in bed, I implore you to binge on one or more of these seven great movies and TV series. That said, maybe don’t start with this week’s number one pick before heading out to get a good night’s sleep yourself, because it’s creepy in the best possible way. — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter
Obsession (Peacock)
Look on it
I’m not kidding when I say Obsessionthe hit movie of 2026 so far that finally landed on Peacock, is wickedly fun. I spent weeks thinking about this supernatural horror after seeing it, and I freely admit that I also felt uneasy for the first few nights after viewing.
For those who don’t know: Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a loser in love who has a crush on one of his best friends Nikki (Inde Navarrette). When Bear comes across an item called One Wish Willow, he buys one and uses it to make Nikki fall in love with him. It’s an impulsive action that ends up having horrible and deadly consequences, and will have you constantly repeating “No, no, no, no, don’t do that!” » by Nikki. line in your head as the plot progresses.
Before you stream it, check out our review of Obsession to understand why everyone became obsessed with a film that, with a reported budget of just $750,000, grossed $400 million worldwide, breaking horror movie box office records, And made Navarrette a serial awards contender. And hey, if Peacock isn’t available in your area yet, see where you can rent or rather the Curry Barker-led phenomenon. — TP
Favorite forever (Netflix)
Look on it
Guys… the ending we’ve been fearing is here. Nick and Charlie’s healthy relationship has been a central intellectual property in Netflix’s original content, but now it’s all ending with Favorite forever.
If you’re disappointed because we don’t get a full fourth season, don’t be. As Nick, Charlie and the gang all prepare before splitting up to go to college, a feature film actually reflects their growing maturity and crises of confidence much more appropriately.
Favorite forever it really is forever…at least it’s at my house, where I’ll be replaying it so much that Netflix might issue a warning. His spirit and generation-defining impact will live on, and this might be the most special achievement the streamer has ever been responsible for. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
Ride or Die (Prime Video)
Look on it
Whoever thought of bringing together Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham in an action-comedy series on Amazon needs an immediate raise. Ride or die gives us the duo of entertainment we didn’t know we needed and lots of laughs along the way.
The pair play best friends Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, who thought they knew everything about each other. But when Judith (Waddingham) is revealed to be an international assassin and a mysterious figure appears, their worlds are turned upside down.
Addressing everything from menopause to the complexities of life, this Prime Video Original is incredibly fun. And that’s surely the most important thing in life, isn’t it? — Joint venture
Lucky (Apple TV)
Look on it
Is there anything Anya Taylor-Joy can’t do? Since she debuted in Robert Eggers The witchI was impressed by the diversity of each of his roles.
In Apple TVs Luckyshe plays a crook forced to flee after a robbery that goes wrong. Across seven episodes, we follow Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong as she attempts to evade the FBI and a ruthless crime boss, hoping she will live up to her nickname and make it out alive. It seems that lawbreaking also runs in his family, as Timothy Olyphant plays his father who is in prison at the beginning of the story.
The first two episodes are available now, and something tells me this will be another Apple Original that I’ll get hooked on. — Lucy Buglas, senior entertainment editor
The Falcon (Netflix)
Look on it
If you ask me, Will Ferrell and golf seem like a natural TV marriage. The falcon on Netflix proves me right, with Ferrell playing Lonnie Hawkins, a top golfer in 2004. Two decades later and he’s trying to recapture his magic at the end of his career. However, he refuses to believe he is less than one shot away from golf’s greatest comeback.
If you have already watched Merry Gilmore Or The ghost of the Openthis is for you…even if you pretend you actually know the first thing about sports, which is easy to do. — Joint venture
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland (Disney+)
Look on it
THE Descendants the franchise continues on Disney+ with wicked wonderland, which marks the fifth installment in the series (although I didn’t think there were that many).
Resumption shortly after Descendants: The Rise of RedRed and Chloe return from their adventures through time to discover that the Queen of Hearts is trapped. The once-famous villain now has a hot streak, but that’s giving way to a new evil: Maddox Hatter.
Personally, I still can’t believe that a British popstar from the 2010s is playing one of the most iconic fictional queens of all time. If you’re British, it’s a must-see for that reason alone. — Joint venture
Murder 101 (Prime Video)
Look on it
Prime Video’s new three-part documentary series is fascinating. Murder 101 It’s a high school sociology class based in rural Tennessee that helps revive a decades-old case into a shocking present-day hunt for a killer.
It’s the kind of thing you’d expect to find in a work of fiction, like Netflix. How to escape murder comes to mind, but it’s 100% real. You can also check out the podcast of the same name if you want to dig deeper.
Ultimately, this program showcases the power of a local community as we follow a group of students who become amateur detectives. I’m already locked up. -KG
