Ariana Grande leaves behind a trail of petals for fans to follow as the countdown to her new album continues.
Before the release of his eighth studio album, petalon July 31, the pop star treated her fans to previews of the record during her current tour eternal sun tour. During a five-night concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Grande released snippets of two new songs: Petal and Kiss Me.
In a teaser for the title track’s music video, shared on Instagram on July 18, the Grammy winner gave fans their biggest glimpse of the album’s mysterious theme. Directed by his longtime collaborator Christian Breslauer, the clip opens with a “Wanted” poster.
“WANTED! STAR AUDITION TODAY…TV AND MOVIE INDUSTRY…Big studios are calling for new faces who can follow directions and have a good personality…FAME INC,” the poster read.
The teaser then cuts to a pair of heels rushing over a cracked star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where a single flower has grown on the sidewalk. A close-up of a man taking a long drag of a cigarette before flashing a smile adds an eerie tone, before Grande’s silhouette appears on stage as the word “petal” lights up the screen behind her.
Grande also surprised fans with a preview of Kiss Me – the album’s opening track – during the fourth night of her Brooklyn concerts.
“Kiss me like you know it’s goodbye / we could try to ride all the way / catch me like my life is on the line,” Grande sings as she floats through asteroid rings in space.
The 33-year-old artist has already released the first single from the album, I hate that I made you love melast month.
