- Only 34% of organizations say they trust the actions of their agents.
- 77% of companies experiencing “agent chaos” have deployed agents
- These organizations are focusing on the wrong things (models and tools)
According to new Boomi data, while 86% of companies have moved from agentic AI pilots to actual production-level deployment, only 34% trust the actions their agents take.
However, these trust issues don’t come from the intelligence of the models: Boomi says that data quality, integrations, governance and controls could be the cause.
The study divides respondents into distinct categories, with the bottom quartile in terms of preparedness labeled “agent chaos.” Of those in agentic chaos, up to 77% are still putting AI agents into production, highlighting a worrying gap.
Trust in AI is entirely in the hands of businesses
As more than three out of four businesses in agentic chaos continue to implement their plans, Boomi warns that they could face unexpected costs from non-compliance fines, customer losses and operational downtime.
On the other hand, the top quartile was categorized as “agent control,” and more than half (55%) of them reported having high confidence in their agents’ decisions and actions.
Additionally, the report criticizes those in agentic chaos for focusing on the wrong things, with around half (51%) prioritizing the maturity of AI models or tools over the real causes of distrust.
“Agents can only be trusted to act on data that has been properly enabled, connected, and governed, and most companies have deployed agents before doing this work,” wrote CEO Steve Lucas.
Ultimately, Boomi’s data implies that the pressure to demonstrate the value and ROI of AI could actually lead to premature deployment before the foundations are in place, forcing organizations to play catch-up in a much more inefficient way.
