A newborn baby was discovered living in a plastic bag in a house under construction of the Gajjumata region of Lahore, which caused a rapid action of rescue teams and authorities.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, a distress call reported the presence of an abandoned infant near LDA Road, Express News reported.
When they arrived, the speakers found the baby wrapped in a plastic bag. Despite the circumstances, the little girl was alive and immediately transported to the children’s hospital for medical evaluation and care.
After the incident, the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, took note and ordered the child protection office to take custody of the infant.
President Sarah Ahmed confirmed that the office team had been sent to the hospital to ensure the appropriate care of the baby.
“The child will receive the best possible care and maintained under the protection of the office,” said Ahmed, reaffirming government’s commitment to protect vulnerable children.
The authorities launched an investigation to determine how the baby ended up on the site and to find anyone involved in the abandonment of the newborn.
On the other hand, the adviser of the chief of KP on health, Ihtesham Khan, the head of the Field office, Radoslaw Rzehak and the Unicef health team, Dr. Inamullah Khan inaugurated a Newborn care unit at the Abbottabad Women’s Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, the health advisor stressed the importance of care for quality newborns to fight against the high mortality of the newborn in the province.
He thanked UNICEF for supporting the newborn care agenda, adding that UNICEF’s model taking, KP Govt plans to establish quality newborns care units in each hospital of district level.
Radoslaw Rzehak said UNICEF supports the government of health and nutrition as well as education. He provided continuous support. Dr. INAMULLAH said it is a cutting-edge unit that has the capacity to provide care for quality newborns to the adjacent districts of Abbottabad.
