ISLAMABAD:
DPM/FM Ishaq Dar on Friday expressed deep concern over recent regional tensions and stressed the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation by all parties and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability.
Dar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, according to a press release.
The DPM stressed the need to build on the agreements reached under the Islamabad MoU of June 2026.
Dar also called on the United States and Iran to return to diplomacy based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Washington and Tehran in June.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the long-standing and close ties between Pakistan and Iran and reviewed the evolving regional situation.
Foreign Minister Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support and constructive efforts to promote regional peace and security.
He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the safe return of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those from US-banned vessels, and for its close coordination with Iranian, US and other relevant authorities to ensure their safe transit through Pakistan and return to Iran.
Wang Yi
Dar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.
The two leaders had a warm and productive exchange of views on bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation in multilateral forums.
He thanked Yi for appreciating Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts towards regional peace and stability as highlighted during his speech at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers.
