Interior Minister says Pakistan welcomes foreign investment in meeting with British counterpart

ISLAMABAD:

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday said the government would welcome foreign investments and ensure all possible facilitations for investors during a meeting with Lord Zamir Choudrey, a member of the British House of Lords. Pakistan Television (PTV) reported.

During the meeting, Naqvi said that Pakistan offered vast investment opportunities and the country would welcome investors, and added that all possible facilities would be provided to investors.

He said Pakistan’s joint efforts for lasting peace in the region continued. “God willing, our efforts will produce positive results this time too,” Naqvi said.

Choudrey praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the region. He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had made commendable efforts for regional stability.

He further said that the positive policies of the government were creating greater investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Earlier in July, Naqvi and Chinese Minister of State for Public Security and Head of the Special Services Bureau Ling Zhifeng reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation and deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The two ministers agreed to expand their cooperation on internal security, emphasizing the need for closer collaboration in the areas of border management, illegal immigration and the fight against narcotics.

CPEC body to buy bulletproof car

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) secretariat has decided to purchase a bulletproof vehicle at a cost of Rs 95 million to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals as it said the Cabinet division could not meet its urgent needs, leading to cancellation of important official engagements.

The new 3,500cc Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle will join a fleet of such vehicles and at least two helicopters that various government ministries have purchased or are in the process of purchasing for the protection of Chinese nationals vulnerable to attack. Due to high risks, Chinese nationals are not allowed to travel in non-bulletproof vehicles.

The bulletproof vehicle is being purchased solely for the safety of Chinese nationals, whose protection is the primary responsibility of the Pakistani government, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said.
