At least seven policemen, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were killed after terrorists attacked the Khazina Banda police check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Habib said on Wednesday.
According to the DPO, 22 policemen, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, were also injured in the militant attack.
He further said that eight terrorists were also killed while six others were injured in retaliatory firing.
The DPO added that a mine clearance operation against the terrorists was continuing in the area.
Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan provinces, since 2021 when the Afghan Taliban came to power.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban administration to rein in terrorist groups. After Islamabad said Kabul had failed to fulfill its responsibilities, it launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February this year in response to cross-border militant attacks from Afghanistan.
The latest terror incident comes hours after the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said that security forces eliminated 32 Indian-backed terrorists during operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan in the last 24 hours.
A report by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) showed that KP and Balochistan were the epicenters of violence, with the former being the worst-affected region during the second quarter of 2026.
Together, the two provinces accounted for almost 96% of all violence-related deaths, with more than 61% (475) recorded in the former and 34% (265) in the latter, according to the report.
KP recorded the highest number of violent incidents in the second quarter, with 151 cases (57%), followed by Balochistan with 94 incidents (35%), accounting for the majority of reported violence.
