2.9 m of Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan

Islamabad:

The Chief Commissioner of Afghan Refugees informed the Standing Committee of States and Border Regions (SAFRON) of the Senate, including around 2.9 million Afghan nationals currently resided in Pakistan, of which 1.4 million were recorded while 0, 7 million were not recorded.

The chief commissioner presented the empirical data on Afghan refugees on Friday at the meeting of the Safron Committee, chaired by Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi to the Parliament Chamber.

The commissioner gave a complete briefing on current humanitarian assistance provided to Afghan refugees in Pakistan, covering areas such as refuge, food, water, sanitation, education and health care.

Committee members were also informed of the program of areas affected by refugees and accommodation areas (RAHA). They were informed that the development projects under RAHA were interrupted in 2024 due to a lack of funding.

Senators Saadia Abbasi and Syed Masroor Ahsan insisted on the mobilization of international support to finance projects for Afghan refugees and the appropriate use of funds.

The committee has led a detailed report on the Raast project.
