Pakistan agreed to welcome 15 Palestinian prisoners who were released as part of a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas, according to a spokesman for Hamas. The announcement made on Monday, described Pakistan as an “older brother” for his desire to support the Palestinian cause.
The ceasefire, which finished 15 months of war, began on January 15 and includes the gradual withdrawal of the Israeli forces from the center of Gaza and the return of the displaced Palestinians north of Gaza.
The agreement also saw Hamas agree to release 33 Israeli hostages, including women, children and men over 50, while Israel is committed to publishing 30 Palestinian prisoners for each civil hostage and 50 For each Israeli soldier released by Hamas.
Dr. Khaled Qaddoumi, spokesperson for Hamas, confirmed that Israel had already released nearly 180 Palestinians, some of whom settled in Egypt, while several Muslim countries, including Pakistan, expressed their will to welcome Freed prisoners, Arab News reported.
“We have officially received confirmation that Pakistan agreed to receive 15 prisoners. For this, we are deeply grateful to the Pakistani government, the Pakistani people and the Pakistani establishment,” said Dr. Qaddoumi.
The government has not yet officially commented on its agreement to welcome prisoners, but this decision follows Pakistan’s long -standing support in Palestine.
The development follows the reports of QUDS Press, which indicated that 99 Palestinian prisoners had been expelled in Egypt, 263 others should be released by the completion of the first phase of the release process.
The second phase of the agreement will include the release of the remaining Israeli hostages and the complete withdrawal of Israeli Gaza troops.
Since the start of the military offensive of Israel on Gaza in October 2023, Pakistan has provided humanitarian aid and has launched a fund of public donations to support the population affected by the war in Gaza.
“We continue to maintain our commitment to Palestine, and we thank the Pakistani people and leadership for their continuous support,” added Dr Qaddoumi.
The conflict has led to devastating losses, with more than 47,000 Palestinians have reported a destruction killed and generalized in Gaza, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967.
