The Brooks family filed a complaint against LSU last August for negligence, saying that the school did not properly manage the situation, and the doctors who operated Brooks Jr. are not qualified to do so.
The trial also alleged that the LSU staff told Brooks to play football despite feeling sick, and they threatened to take their starting place if he did not.
“Greg will probably need care for the rest of his life for the injuries he suffered as a result of the professional fault of his providers,” said the trial. “Obviously, Greg will never be able to play football again, and he will probably never be able to work and / or take care of himself without the help of others.”
LSU created a donation fund at the time, but the prosecution indicates that the funds have never been transferred.
The Brooks trial names Notre-Dame du Lake Hospital, where he suffered his operation, as a defendant.
“Due to patients on the confidentiality of patients and current disputes, we cannot comment on individuals or specific situations,” the hospital said in a statement at the time. “The neurosurgical team of Notre-Dame du Lac is among the most experienced in Louisiana and they give our patients the best opportunity for a positive result in all circumstances.”
“Although LSU cannot comment on the current disputes, Greg Brooks remains in our thoughts and prayers when he continues to follow the rehabilitation process,” said the university last October.
