An elevator to the prereness of the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) plunged from the second floor on the ground floor on Thursday, in the second type incident reported to the courthouse in recent days.
Fortunately, no victim has been reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the defective elevator had seven individuals inside at the time, including lawyers.
The situation caused panic, but all the occupants were evacuated safely after the court maintenance personnel manually unlocked the doors using a key.
Judicial officials have not yet published a declaration concerning the cause of dysfunction, but concerns about the safety of elevators in the building have increased.
The incident follows a similar accident in which an eminent Latif Khosa lawyer and ten others were trapped in an elevator in the same premises last year.
The lawyers remained trapped for about 45 minutes before being saved by the rescue of the Development Authority (CDA) capital.
The incident, which occurred shortly after Khosa’s appearance in the Toshakhana case against Imran, left the lawyers in a cramped space without lights or fan.
Naeem Haider Panjotha and Ali Ejaz Buttar were among the lawyers trapped in the elevator.
Meanwhile, videos of trapped lawyers quickly circulated on social networks, arousing concerns and accusations of alleged “harassment”.
It was later revealed that the elevator was potentially overloaded, transporting more people than its capacity.
The administration of the High Court has been accused of doing nothing to withdraw lawyers trapped from the elevator. The IHC moved new year in its building last year.
