Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked officials to accelerate the ministries’ privatization process, guaranteeing his completion within the designated period.

The directive was published at an exam meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, where the task management system to monitor the privatization process was discussed, Radio Pakistan reported.

The PM stressed that the process must be carried out in full transparency and that any legal obstacle must be treated by hiring renowned lawyers. “Renowned lawyers’ services should be hired to eliminate legal obstacles in the privatization process,” he said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz added that the privatization initiative is part of the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” program, stressing that the government’s role is to facilitate businesses and investments, rather than engaging in commercial operations directly.

“Government is not to do business, but to take political measures and to facilitate businesses and investments,” he said.

He also noted that the country is progressing quickly towards economic improvement thanks to timely reforms and called for collective efforts to advance the development of Pakistan.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed of the task management system for privatization and was informed of the calendar of the privatization of various ministries.

The privatization process has been divided into three phases: ten departments will be privatized in the first phase, thirteen in the second and the remaining departments of the third phase.
