- Despite the previous reports, Samsung Messages was not interrupted
- Samsung’s native messaging application even had the reinstated RCS support
- Samsung Messages is now only available via the Galaxy Store
Despite a previously interpreted statement as a stop announcement, Samsung’s Google messages are always available for users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones – in fact, it has just received a new update.
Samsung messages, which are now only available via the Samsung-Run Galaxy Store application, have been upgraded to include the implementation of RCS Google or rich communication services.
As we mentioned earlier, RCS allows the sharing of Imessage style media and group cats for phones of any platform. Samsung users have had access to RCS via Google messages for years.
The Samsung messages previously offered an implementation owner of RCS – however, as Android Authority notes, this was withdrawn last year as part of the switch to Google messages as default email application for Galaxy handsets.
We recently pointed out that Samsung messages had been interrupted and would be made completely unavailable for users of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
This was due to a Samsung declaration, initially reported by Android Authority, which was read (in part): “We have chosen to migrate all services to Google Messages and are Samsung SunSing messages. It is no longer available in the Play Store; However, those who have chosen to use Samsung messages can still do so. »»
Although our cover, as well as by others like Phonearena, interpreted the “sunset” as a lighter way to say “close”, Samsung informed us later that this was not exactly the case.
A later declaration provided to us by Samsung directly, said: “From the new models, the Samsung Messages application will no longer be preloaded. Instead, Google Messages will provide a new and improved experience to express your emotions, which makes communication safe and fun. The Samsung Messages application is always available for download from the Galaxy Store with certain excluded features. »»
The new models in question are the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, Galaxy S25 Ultra and probably the new Galaxy S25 EDGE. Rather than completely losing access to Samsung messages, it seems that the owners of new Samsung Galaxy phones will have to look for the application on the Samsung’s own Galaxy store.
There have been back and forth on the future of Samsung messages, but an official update like this suggests that it remains for a certain time, if only as an alternative to messages Google now lacking. As a video by Jeff Springer from Sammyguru shows, Samsung messages remain unavailable in the Google Play Store.
In any case, it is unlikely that an email application reshuffle prevents the Galaxy S25 series from collecting places on our lists of the best phones and the best Samsung phones.
