Seoul: North Korea declared on Saturday that its nuclear weapons are not for negotiation purposes but are designed for use in combat against enemies constituting a threat to its people and its world peace, according to a media report ‘State.
The statement comes after US President Donald Trump welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to the White House on Friday. The two leaders expressed their commitment to guarantee the end of North Korea at the end of its nuclear weapon program.
KCNA did not mention the meeting between American and Japanese leaders, but rather cited comments reported by NATO and EU officials who have reiterated the requests for complete denuclearization of North Korea.
“We clearly repeat it: our nuclear weapons are not an advertisement to obtain the recognition of anyone who and even less a negotiation program to exchange for money,” KCNA said in a statement.
“Our nuclear forces are intended to use unwavering fights to quickly eliminate any attempt from enemy forces which affect the sovereignty of our country and the security of our people and threaten world peace,” he said.
North Korea has not responded directly to Trump’s openings to regain contact with its chef Kim Jong Une and rather stressed its intention to “strengthen” its nuclear forces.
Trump said on Friday that he “would have relations with North Korea and with Kim Jong one”, adding that he had had good relations with Kim. The two held unprecedented summit meetings during the first presidency of Trump.
On January 20, when he was inaugurated for his second term, Trump said that the North was a “nuclear power”, raising the question of whether he would pursue arms reduction talks rather than denuclearization negotiations.
“The two leaders expressed their serious concerns and the need to fight against nuclear and missile programs in North Korea and reaffirmed their resolved commitment to the full north Korea denuclearization,” said a joint declaration by Trump and Ishiba after their interviews.
