Former Pakistani cricket player Yasir Arafat was appointed Bowling consultant in South Africa for the ODI Tri-Nation series featuring the hosts in Pakistan and New Zealand.
Yasir Arafat, who played three tests, 11 ODI and 13 T20is for Pakistan, arrived in Lahore of London and joined the Proteas training camp before their opening match against New Zealand on February 10.
The former versatile is the first Pakistani test cricket player to take a level 4 coaching course of the ECB at the University of Loughborough. He was a bowling coach for county teams such as Sussex and Surrey and worked with the Perth Scotchers in the Big Bash League (BBL) of Australia.
In addition, Yasir Arafat was the high performance coach of Pakistan and the bowling coach of the Hong Kong national team.
Yasir Arafat described his new role as a precious experience, attributing his appointment to his familiarity with local conditions.
“It’s a good opportunity for me to work with the South Africa team. I was given the role because of my familiarity with the conditions here, “he said.
While recognizing the absence of senior players due to the T20 leagues and injuries, he expressed confidence in young players in South Africa.
“The invilability of experienced players makes a difference, but young people are also talented,” he added.
The ODI Tri-Nation series, from February 8 to 14, will serve as a key preparatory event for the Champions Trophy ICC 2025, which begins on February 19 in Karachi.
Pakistan will face New Zealand during the opening match, while the first South African match is scheduled for February 10. The final will be played between the two best teams on February 14.
