- The British government accepts offers for “AI growth areas”
- These will focus on local authorities with access to energy sources
- Growth areas are part of the government AI action plan
The British government increases its “change plan” with the launch of “AI growth zones”, designed to focus on the deindustrialized areas of the United Kingdom ready to redevelop.
The government encourages local and regional authorities to submit their offers – in particular those with “access existing to energy or that would be suitable for establishing a major energy infrastructure”, such as those close to nuclear reactors, solar stations and Wind parks, or storage of batteries.
The launch follows the government’s master’s plan to “release AI” from the British economy by investing massively in data centers and “unlocizing” public data to allow researchers to access the training of models of Ia.
Superpower
In the AI action plan, growth areas aim to speed up the construction of AI infrastructure and allow better access to the energy network. This despite the considerable tension that this would put on the national network, because the energy consumption of the data center is defined to increase the “six times” in a decade.
The government aims to market the United Kingdom as an “world leader” of the AI and to attract technological investments – and already claims to bring “millions per hour” in the financing of the private sector.
By attracting investments and building connected infrastructure, “growth areas” hope to exploit the economic potential of the United Kingdom and create “thousands” of local jobs, local “revitalizing” communities.
“These new AI growth areas will offer incalculable opportunities – trigger new jobs, a new investment and guarantee that every corner of the country has a real participation in our future powered by AI,” said the secretary of State to science, innovation and technology, Peter Kyle.
“We do not leave any non-returned stone in the way we can exploit expertise from everywhere in the United Kingdom to offer new opportunities, new growth, better public services and cement our position as a pioneer of AI . “
