If you have not yet taken Samsung Galaxy S25, the Galaxy S26 could be worth waiting because it was to obtain a huge battery update.
A report from the FNNEWS Korean language website says Samsung is considering a transition to silicon-carbon batteries for its new generation galaxy phones, which could see battery capabilities jump from 4,000 mAh and 5,000 mAh to 6,000 mAh and 7,000 mAh.
This increase in capacity would be facilitated by exchanging graphite in the anode of a conventional lithium-ion battery and using the compound silicon carbide, allowing a smaller battery even more dense because silicon can contain more ions than graphite. The use of silicon carbide rather than ordinary silicon is also a battery capable of managing more power and higher voltage than silicon, and which has better thermal stability, all leading to a more powerful and efficient battery.
We have already seen silicon carbon batteries appear in new phones, as you will see in our Revue Oppo Find X8 Pro. But the adoption of such a battery technology, which can be expensive, has not yet found its way in Samsung, Google or Apple phones.
A new border for galaxy phones
I have been using the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for a few weeks now, and even if I was not impressed by the longevity of its 5,000 mAh battery, I was not disappointed either.
But the continuous rise in artificial intelligence (AI) tools and features, and the increased ability to perform on devices rather than having cloud support, means that current and future smartphones could be more eager for energy that never. Then there is the future move to 6G to consider, which, like 5G, could prove to be a drain on the batteries of the phone when supported.
So, new ways to get the most out of batteries of the same size as we see it in today’s phones could be the next discreet border for smartphones. And if the FNNEWS report is correct, Samsung could be one of the big brands to direct this decision, even if it will not be the first.
Since the Galaxy S25 family has just launched – with phones duly claiming places on our best phones and the best lists of Samsung phones – it will take some time before seeing the Galaxy S26. But in about 12 months, we could get a galaxy phone with a battery life that impresses us completely.
