Google has dominated research for years, generating the vast majority of organic traffic in the world – but that its grip remains firm, new data suggest that cracks are starting to form.

The report also reveals platforms focused on AI such as Chatgpt and Perplexity aroused interest in 2024, especially in the second half of the year. Chatgpt’s reference traffic has increased from negligible levels to 0.09% by December, while perplexity has experienced regular but slower growth, reaching 0.02%.
These figures suggest that the research platforms led by AI are gaining ground, but roughly Google. Even if the adoption of AI’s search accelerates, it would take years before it could considerably challenge the traditional model.
Microsoft’s Bing has also integrated AI tools into its research experience, hoping to keep Google users away. However, its incremental growth shows that only AI is not enough to disrupt the established habits.
While other brands integrate AI to fight Google, the technology giant does not fold its arms. He has deployed AI -centered features such as IA and Gemini 2.0 previews, which helped him maintain his advantage.
This progress, associated with its vast infrastructure and user confidence, guarantee that Google remains the essential search engine in the foreseeable future.
Although the responses generated by AI provide a new way to access information, they do not entirely replace traditional research. For the moment, Google remains unshakable at 24 times the size of its nearest rival.
