Islamabad:
The regional benchmark laboratory for the eradication of polio at the National Health Institute confirmed the 74th type 1 poliovirus of Pakistan (WPV1) of 2024.
The last case was reported to Shikarpur, with the start on December 15, 2024. This marked the second case of Polio de Shikarpur in 2024.
Pakistan reported a total of 74 cases in 2024. Among these, 27 come from Balutchistan, 23 from Sindh, 22 of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and one from Punjab and Islamabad.
So far, in 2025, only one case of polio has been reported, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
