The president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accused a former political rival of having weakened the country’s foundations, saying that his party is now working to restore economic stability.
Addressing a rally of the members of the Punjab assembly of PML-N in Lahore, Sharif described what he described as the achievements of his party by reversing the economic decline of the country.
Without appointing names, the former Prime Minister took a veiled excavation to the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, blaming him for bad governance and poor economic management.
“A dishonest leader who came to power thanks to the deception shook the very foundations of Pakistan,” said Sharif. “But we have made sacrifices for this country in the past, and we will continue to do so for its progress.”
He underlined a series of recent economic improvements, including a drop in inflation, an increase in the stock market and a strengthening of the Pakistani Roupie. According to Sharif, these indicators reflect the positive impact of PML-N policies and governance.
Sharif congratulated his younger brother, former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for having directed efforts to stabilize the economy, adding that even the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recognized Pakistan’s financial recovery.
“We have shot the trend of economic decline towards progress,” he said. “Interest rates increased from 22% to 12%, increasing commercial activity and economic growth. Pakistan finally leaves the dark.”
The meeting, which included the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz and senior party officials, also examined the current development projects and the political strategy. The members of the Punjab assembly expressed their confidence in the direction of Nawaz Sharif, calling it “symbol of the progress and prosperity of Pakistan”.
Party legislators also congratulated the Minister -in Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, for her governance, in particular to relaunch inactive ministries and accelerate public protection initiatives.
“For the first time, even the neglected departments are now working actively,” said a party member. “Under Maryam Nawaz, Punjab witnesses a governance model which follows the vision of the development of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif.”
The meeting discussed the future political roadmap, the leaders reaffirming their commitment to relieve the people. PML-N members said that the “SUTHRA PUNJAB” initiative (PUNJAB) had established a new reference in terms of cleanliness and municipal services through the province.
