The United States Embassy in Islamabad published a travel notice on Wednesday, citing Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) “threats against the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad”.
“The regional security office of the United States Embassy has prohibited US employees from moving into the Mosque Faisal zone until further notice,” the embassy said in a statement.
The security alert specifically mentions the potential risk of a terrorist attack and advises American citizens to avoid the location.
In addition to travel warning, the embassy urged both its staff and its American citizens to remain vigilant about their personal security. He recommended monitoring local media for updates and ensuring that they carry identification documents when traveling.
The United States Embassy has also provided a special contact number for US citizens in an emergency.
