A police officer was injured in the Kohat region, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, after the terrorists launched a hand grenade in a police van. In response, the security forces retaliated, killing an activist and arresting several others.
Weapons and a hand grenade have been recovered from the attackers, and a research operation is currently underway in the region. The police van also suffered damage during the attack.
A regional police officer (RPO) confirmed that a terrorist had been killed when the police retaliated.
Several activists were also arrested during the operation and weapons, including hand grenades, have been seized, he added.
Previously, a convoy of 130 vehicles, including five oil tankers, was ambushed by unidentified armed attackers in the Kurram district on Monday. The convoy, which went from Grand to Parachinar, was attacked near Char Khel to Lower Kurram.
The attackers opened fire on the convoy, stopping vehicles and looting supplies, including a truck carrying medication. Police sources have confirmed that Khan Khan, a peshawar driver, had been injured during the incident and was transferred to Ali Zai hospital for treatment.
The security forces responded to the attack, with shots also reported in the uchit and dad Qamar dad areas.
The district administration later confirmed that 113 vehicles had reached their destination safely.
At least 74 attacks took place nationally in January, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security staff, 20 civilians and 36 activists. 117 other people were injured, Picss reported.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was the most affected province, followed by Balutchistan. KP’s installed districts saw 27 attacks, causing 19 deaths, while tribal districts attended 19 attacks and 46 deaths, including security forces, civilians and activists.
