Netflix will set for NFL Sunday Games on the platform

Netflix wants to have NFL games on its streaming platform, and we are not only talking about Christmas Day.

In an interview with Puck News, Bela Bejaria, director of Netflix content, said the streaming platform will teach on Sunday afternoon matches.

One of the main reasons why Netflix might want to teach for NFL matches revolves around the league’s desire to continue to grow international markets. Of course, having a global streamer to do it would make sense for the NFL – if that is the plan.

Netflix held two Christmas games – Baltimore Ravens against Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs against Pittsburgh Steelers – and they were both the most common NFL matches in American history.

According to Nielsen, the two games were on average 24 million viewers. With more than 218 countries capacity to watch the matches, more than 65 million viewers have been seen on the platform.

Currently, the NFL Sunday afternoon games belong to Fox and CBS, with Fox with the NFC package since 1994, and CBS obtained the NBC AFC package in 1998.

Their transactions take place until 2033, by ProfotballTalk. However, the NFL has the right to withdraw from the agreement four years earlier, and there was the indication of this plan.

Thus, even if it seems unlikely to occur for the 2025 season, a streaming platform like Netflix could jump into the fold to obtain a larger exposure of the NFL on its platform.

Consequently, one of the main NFL distribution partners will probably be absent, which will be interesting to see to say the least.

The NFL has been broadcast on various channels and streamers in recent seasons, with a privileged video having the rights of “Thursday Night Football”, the ABC / ESPN “programming Monday Night Football” and Peacock also being an exclusive house for matches eliminators.
