A Gaza Vis Vaccination campaign against polio

Who said in a press release that more than 591,000 children under the age of 10 will receive the vaccine to protect them from highly infectious disease from this weekend for a scheduled period of five days.

The campaign follows the recent poliovirus detection in wastewater samples in the broken enclave which points out that the infection still circulates in the enclave and endangering children.

“”Individuals with low or no immunity provide the virus the opportunity to continue to spread and cause a diseaseWho said.

The United Nations Health Agency added that terrible health conditions in Gaza which include overcrowding in shelters and seriously damaged water and sewers had created “ideal conditions for a new propagation of poliovirus”.

The mass return of people north and south of Gaza during the current ceasefire is also likely to increase the spread of polio, which has warned.

The campaign will be led by the Palestinian Ministry of Health with the support of WHO, the United Nations Agency for UNICEF children, Palestine Refugee Relief Agency (UNRWA) and other partners.

The agency stressed that polio vaccines are sure and that there is no maximum number of times that a child must be vaccinated, each dose offering additional protection. An additional series of shots is scheduled for April.
