The chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, inaugurated on Wednesday the first electrical bus transport system in Lahore, aimed at providing a more affordable and environmentally friendly journey.
Speaking during the launch, Maryam Nawaz said that the initiative was part of her vision of a “green punjab”. She confirmed that 27 electric buses arrived and set the price to Rs. 20 to make public transport more accessible.
The new service will allow students, the elderly and people with different affairs to travel for free using an electric bus card.
Passengers will also have access to internet and free load installations on board.
Nawaz also announced its intention to introduce 500 additional electric buses by August and extend the Metrobus service to Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the next financial year.
In addition, the government aims to provide 100,000 electric bikes to students as part of its modernization of transport.
Managers say that the initiative is a step towards reducing traffic and carbon emissions, which makes the public transport system for Lahore more sustainable.
In addition, Peshawar should extend its fast bus transport service (BRT) with the addition of 72 new hybrid diesel buses to meet growing demand and facilitate congestion in the city.
During a meeting chaired by the chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, it was decided to launch BRT buses on new roads along Ring Road, Bara Road and Khyber Road, Reported Express News.
In this regard, 72 new Diesel-Hybrides buses will be purchased.
A deadline of six months has been set to complete the civil work required for the purchase of new buses and operations on these new routes.
The progress of construction during places for the BRT system have also been examined.
A briefing at the meeting revealed that the Hayatabad shopping center and the Dubgari Plaza, which are under construction, will be completed at the end of April.
