The president of the Islamic Ideological Council, Dr. Raghib Hussain Naemimi, announced the guidelines for the payment of Fitrana (Almsgiving) and Roza Fidya (compensation for the missed fast) for the current year.
According to the advice recommendations, a minimum of RS220 per person must be paid as a Fitrana depending on wheat, while those who opt for other forms of food products such as dates, raisins or dried apricots will have to pay Variable amounts.
More specifically, Fitrana for dates is calculated at RS1,650 for raisins at RS2,500 and for dried apricots at RS5,000.
Dr. Naemimi stressed that Fitrana and Fidya should be paid in accordance with his financial capacity. He reiterated that Fitrana is a compulsory charity for all Muslims – men and women, free and slaves – and must be given before the end of Ramadan.
The announcement also provided detailed calculations for those who choose to pay according to different food products.
For example, the amount of 30 days of Fidya (compensation for missed fast) is 6,600 rupees for wheat, RS13,500 for barley, 49,500 rupees for dates, 75,000 rupees for raisins and 150 000 rupees for dried apricots.
Dr. Naeemi also underlined the Kaffara (penalty) for having deliberately broken a fast, which implies fasting for 60 consecutive days or feeding 60 individuals in the need of two meals each.
In addition, individuals using subsidized government wheat flour can pay as little as RS160 for their contributions Fitrana and Fidya.
