In an era dominated by elegant commercial laptops and multifunctional tablets, the idea of a portable digital typewriter may seem a step in time. Some companies, however, count on this as their USP.
Take the Pomera DM250 for example, which, according to Liliputing, aims to revive the retro charm of writing without distraction in an old -fashioned typewriter – although missing a mechanical keyboard.
The DM250, produced by the Japanese company King Jim, has a 7 -inch transflective TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. This screen is visible in ambient light but also includes a backlight to be used in dark conditions.
A simple but functional writing machine
Unlike the old Pomera DM30, which included a foldable keyboard and an E ink screen, the DM250 has a scissor switch keyboard with a 17 mm key and a valve design, similar to the Astro planet SLIDE 5G on the Astro planet.
With dimensions of 263 x 120 x 18 mm and a weight of around 620 grams, the DM250 is positioned as a portable word processing rather than a full -fledged commercial laptop.
It runs on a light Linux distribution which allows an almost instant start -up when the lid is open and users can manage files and folders with basic features.
This device also includes 1.3 GB of internal storage, which can be extended via an SD card location up to 32 GB.
The Pomera DM250 offers several connectivity options, including a USB 2.0-C port for load and data transfers. It also supports WiFi 4 (802.11b / g / n) and Bluetooth 4.2, allowing wireless file transfers via the Pomera Link application.
Originally launched in Japan in 2022, the DM250 was only available in its mother tongue. However, King Jim has now announced that an American English version will be available for order from February 18. This version will include an English keyboard arrangement and an integrated dictionary for spell verification. The retail price is $ 499, although the first buyers can get one for $ 349.
It is an incredibly high price for what it is, even when Japanese models have been spotted running the personalized Debian facilities.
