Okara:
A freight train to Karachi derailed near Okara Cantt on Saturday due to the negligence of railway staff, which disrupted rail traffic.
Depending on the details, the train started from Lahore for Karachi, but as Okara Cantt approaches, the railway was not changed in time, forcing the driver to apply sudden brakes.
The sudden brakes caused the engine derail and several bogies.
The accident left the driver of the train injured and trapped inside the damaged locomotive. The rescue teams managed to extract it from the wreckage and provided medical assistance.
Speaking after the incident, the driver said he had no choice but to apply sudden brakes to prevent a frontal collision because the railroad was not changed.
Lahore and Multan railway staff were called to repair the damaged track.
After the derailment, the two railways were closed, suspending train operations between Karachi and Lahore. Passenger trains were interrupted for hours in the Okara and Sahiwal railways, causing serious difficulties to travelers.
However, one of the slopes was restored after seven hours, partially taking up operations.
According to a first investigation by the railway police, the accident was attributed to a combination of over-price and a delay in the change of track.
