A criminal body was recovered from the residence of the former Minister of Punjab and chief of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) Aslam Iqbal in the Samanabad region of Lahore, the police announced on Monday.
The authorities found the body in the neighborhoods of the property servants, located in New Mozang.
The deceased has not yet been identified, but the police estimate the age between 30 and 35 years.
Officials said the districts of servants had been rented a few months ago by a police officer appointed Arshad, who was now summoned for interrogation.
“The body has been broken down, making it difficult to identify,” said a police source, adding that the forensic teams had collected evidence on the crime scene.
The authorities have not yet determined the reason behind the murder and work to trace the suspects.
Aslam Iqbal began his political career as an independent candidate, winning a seat of the Punjab assembly in 2002 before joining PML-Q and as Minister of Punjab in Tourism until 2007.
He then joined PTI and was re -elected in the provincial elections of 2013 and 2018, obtaining a ministerial role in the Punjab cabinet under Usman Buzdar. He organized portfolios for industries, trade, investment and briefly for information and culture.
In 2022, he became principal Minister of the Administration of Parvez Elahi.
In 2024, PTI appointed him candidate for the chief minister of Punjab.
