Al Trautwig, a sports commentator who covered New York Yankees, New York Knicks and New York Rangers, has died, his former colleague revealed in a social networks on Monday. He was 68 years old.
Alan Hahn published the position on the MSG Networks broadcaster.

“I am sad to share the news that we have lost a legendary voice in sport. But we have lost much more than that,” he wrote on X. “He was not only a friend, but a mentor and a teacher.

Trautwig was a long-standing broadcaster on MSG Network because it covered the pre-match before and post-match shows for Knicks and Rangers. He sometimes made play-by-play comments too.
He covered the NHL on USA Network and Versus and welcomed “Sportsnite” on ABC Sports at the start of his career. But New York City Sports fans knew him of his coverage of the best teams in the region. In addition to its Knicks and Rangers coverage, Trautwig also made a pre and PostG coverage.
He worked for MSG Networks until 2021.

“MSG Networks is really saddened by the news of the death of Al Trautwig,” said the station at the New York Post. “Al was a staple food on the coverage of Knicks, Rangers and Yankees from MSG Networks for more than 30 years, and his passion for the teams he covered was undeniable.
“He leaves behind him one of the great inheritances in the history of sports broadcasting in New York. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Al.”
Trautwig fans have also weighed on social networks.
Trautwig told Newsday last year that he had undergone cancer treatment and kept the hope that he was going to recover entirely from the disease.
