Pakistan and Uzbekistan signed several agreements on Wednesday aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense, technology, technical training and young people.
The agreements were signed during the two -day visit to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Uzbekistan, during the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The two countries have also agreed to work to extend bilateral trade to $ 2 billion.
After their bilateral meeting and their talks at the delegation level, Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Mirziyoyev witnessed several documents. These included agreements and memoranda of understanding in various sectors.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ouzbeks, Bakhtiyor Sainov, exchanged documents related to travel without visa for holders of diplomatic passports, military information, domestic affairs , vocational and technical training, and the training of diplomats.
An intergovernmental agreement has also been signed between the two countries to collaborate in scientific research, technology and innovation. The Minister of Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan and the Deputy Prime Minister Ouzbek, Khodjayev Jamshid, exchanged the relevant documents.
In addition, the Minister of Information and Dissemination of Attaullah Tarar and the Director General of the National Information Agency of Ouzbekistan, Kuchimov Abdusaid, exchanged a press cooperation between the press agencies of the two countries.
DPM Ishaq Dar and the mayor of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov Buranovich, signed a memorandum of understanding between Lahore and Tashkent.
A memorandum of understanding was also exchanged between the youth program of the Pakistani Prime Minister and the government of Uzbekistan on youth affairs, with the Minister of Information and the Dissemination of Attaulah Tarar and Director of the Youth of youth affairs of Uzbekistan Sa’dullayev Alisher exchanging documents.
Speaking at a joint press conference, President Mirziyoyev welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz and stressed the importance of the agreements.
He said the two nations would work together to overcome challenges and unlock new economic opportunities.
The Uzbek chief stressed that the commercial volume would be extended and described direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore as mutually beneficial.
He also noted that the main Pakistani commercial figures were in Uzbekistan to explore investment opportunities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Uzbek government for its hospitality and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen economic and strategic ties.
He described Uzbekistan as “reliable partner” and invited Uzbeks investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said his government had stabilized the economy of Pakistan, reducing inflation from 38% to 2.4%, and that political reforms strengthened investors’ confidence.
He also highlighted the importance of regional connectivity, including trade via rail networks and joint efforts in the mineral and tourism sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also called the Afghan temporary government to ensure that its territory is not used against Pakistan, stressing that regional peace and stability are in collective interest.
The first first highlighted the importance of peace in Afghanistan, urging the Kabul administration to take concrete measures to prevent transfrontal security threats.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received an honorary guard in Tashkent when he arrived at the Congress Center to meet Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for high -level discussions.
The Uzbek chief received Prime Minister Shehbaz upon his arrival, the national hymns of the two countries played before the Prime Minister returned a military guard alongside Mirziyoyev.
