Pakistan has laws but must be applied, says IHC Kayani judge

Pakistan has complete laws but needs better application to ensure good governance, said judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, judge Mohin Akhtar Kayani, high court (CIH) said on Wednesday.

Explaining during the Millennium Universal College Judicial Competition, organized by the University Law Program Head, Sheikh Waqas Bin Aamir (lawyer in law), judge Kayani urged students to reject corruption and drug abuse, by calling them major obstacles to national progress.

“Each law exists in Pakistan, but the challenge lies in the implementation,” he said.

“A new generation is necessary to improve the entire governance model.”

The event, where law students pleaded for business simulation, was assistant to judge Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, to Islamabad lawyer Ayaz Shoukat, to lawyer Sheikh Waqas Bin Aamir and others.

Judge Kayani stressed the importance of legal education, urging universities to more effectively teach procedural laws.

He stressed that if older generations had played their role, it was time for young people to direct the transformation of the country.

The judge also expressed his concerns concerning the increase in drug abuse, revealing that 200 to 300 cases related to drugs were recorded every day in Islamabad.

“You must reject corruption and drugs and devote at least an hour a day to your studies,” said judge Kayani.
