Captain of Pakistan Mohammad Rizwan acknowledged that the injury of the young opener Saim Ayub had affected the team’s preparations, but insisted that it was not an excuse for their poor performance in the ICC Champions 2025 trophy.

The last group of group of Pakistan groups against Bangladesh was swept away on Thursday, ending his campaign without a single victory. The green shirts had already suffered defeats against India and New Zealand, not having recorded a victory in the tournament.

Speaking after the match on Thursday, Rizwan admitted that the team was below the country’s expectations, adding that the combination of the Pakistan team had been disrupted due to injuries to Ayub and star striker Fakhar Zaman. However, he argued that the team should go ahead and learn from their mistakes.

“When a player who has played exceptionally in the last two to three series is injured, this has an impact on the team,” said Rizwan. “But as a leader, you have to look to the future. There are other players in the team, and we must not use injuries as an excuse.”

The guardian guardian also admitted that the overall performance of the team had been disappointing in recent weeks, but has committed to analyzing their errors and working on improvements before the next series of white balls against New Zealand next month.

“Our results in recent weeks have been disappointing,” he said. “We wanted to perform in front of our crowd today, but unfortunately, we could not. The nation has great expectations from us, and we failed to meet them.”

Rizwan assured that the team had identified their shortcomings during the Champions Trophy and the recent trial and would work hard to solve these problems before their next assignment.

“It’s frustrating. We are here for the whole nation, and we must accept that we have not performed well,” he added. “The public is disappointed, just like us. Inshaallah, we will learn from our mistakes and will come back stronger in future tournaments.”
