- A privacy notice appears on certain Samsung televisions every few hours
- It does not seem to be possible to fully deactivate the TV
- But it could be possible if you log in to the Samsung website
Do you have a Samsung TV whose pop-up will not stop? You may not be the only one. The owners of Samsung sent us an email and published forums on a particularly persistent pop-up message that continues to arise-but the good news is that there can be a simple solution.
The message concerns Samsung’s privacy strategy collecting user data, and many owners of Samsung will have seen them; I am one of them – although mine has never returned after the first performance. But for some users, pop-up continues to come back; One of the affected owners told us that he appears every few hours, who follows what people say online. But no one seems to be able to find an option on televisions to deactivate it.
The customer in particular who contacted us also contacted the support of Samsung and was informed by a representative that there was no solution. But other Samsung owners implore to postpone.
How to solve the Samsung privacy pop-up problem
The problem does not seem to affect a large number of people, this is perhaps the reason why the Samsung support representative did not know how to get rid of it. But this clearly affects some people on several models – we are aware of the problem on the Samsung S90C and the QN90B – in some countries, including the United States, and they have published sites such as Reddit and on the Samsung community website. And this is the latter site where we could have found the solution.
A poster in context shell said they got rid of the message by connecting to their Samsung account on the company’s website and clicked on confidentiality updates. “This prevented the notice from appearing on my TV,” they say.
If this does not work for you, there is something else to try in the short term: this post on the Samsung community site talks about the discomfort of the message: “For 2 days, I have obtained an extremely boring popup notification with a small ding sound. It appears about every 2 hours and disappears in 5 seconds.”
Their correction was not ideal, but it seemed to work: by blocking internet access from the TV so that it has access to the local network but not access to the wide network, the pop-up stops. But it is only practical if you use a streaming device such as a chromecast or an Apple TV 4K to deliver things to your TV; If you use integrated smart applications, then of course, they should be online.
Based on the fact that it appeared on my television and disappeared forever, it looks very much like a software update that Gremlin has been stuck on a loop rather than finding its path in the ether once shown.
We contacted Samsung, who said he was examining the problem on behalf of our reader, but could not provide more information at the time of publication. We will update this story with official information as we get it.
