A Canada Championship match for the Basketball University Basketball Conference on Saturday evening saw a transgender player scoring 21 points in victory and finally winning the MVP of the tournament.
The athlete Trans Harriette Mackenzie led the Vancouver Island University (VIU) to a 69-59 victory against Columbia Christian College (CBC) during the Pacwest championship match. Mackenzie finished the match with 10 rebounds in addition to the 21 points of the athlete’s head.
Mackenzie then received the MVP of the conference tournament during a ceremony after the match. He closed a season in which the athlete punished competition on the ground, leading the whole conference in score by a margin of 62 points compared to the score of second place, and took advantage of the anti-discrimination laws of Canada to arouse the sanction to CBC out of the field.

The Mackenzie Honor Tournament and Conference Championship came after a quarrel of one season between the two teams, whose center athlete was at the center. Mackenzie was the player of the conference in 2023.
The quarrel resulted in the suspension of the CBC head coach Taylor Cagett, and CBC lost the rights to welcome the Pacwest championships, because the match on Saturday was supposed to be played on the CBC’s own field. Instead, due to the sanctions placed on CBC on allegations made by Mackenzie, the game was played at Capilano University.
The quarrel started in a match of October 25 between the two teams, which Viu won 69-56 after Mackenzie scored 19 points. Five days after this match on October 30, the Trans athlete published an Instagram video alleging that Clagett “has stuck one of our sports employees and made a tirade on the way I should not be allowed to play”.
Mackenzie allegedly alleged that she had also been deliberately the victim of a fault on the ground by a CBC player.

“I was thrown with two hands on the ground by n ° 13 without play on the ball in sight, then the head coach Clagett can be seen applaud in support,” said the trans athlete.
In response, Cagett published his own declaration on Instagram, saying that Mackenzie’s statements were inaccurate.
“My intention has nothing to do with a specific athlete, but instead, the safety of female athletes in his sport,” wrote Clargett.
VIU then submitted an official complaint to the PACWEST, which prompted an investigation against VIU. When the two teams were to be played again in two games on January 10 and 11, VIU refused to play due to the alleged incident of their first meetings.
“Intimidation, harassment and discrimination do not take place in athletics,” said Viu in a statement to PK Press Club Digital in January concerning the decision not to play. “VIU fully supports our students athletes and affirms the right of all athletes to participate in an environment that prioritizes their safety and well-being.”
VIU even asked that the two packages do not count as losses on the team’s file, which was granted by the PACWEST.
CBC provided a statement to PK Press Club Digital this weekend declaring: “The accusations that CBC, its coaches, players and fans are a security threat are simply false and poorly informed.”
CBC players then sentenced Mackenzie to a letter sent to PK Press Club Digital.

CBC players blamed Mackenzie for “personal attacks”, “defamatory comments” and even “comments that encourage violence” against their coach.
“The videos and letters published by members of the VIU women’s basketball team in the last three months have directly violated several rules set out in article 17.2 of the manual. Various articles have included personal attacks’ ‘, defamatory comments,` `lack of respect for the pacwest’ ‘and led to comments that encourage violence and / or hate’ ‘led by our’. Coach, “The letter was read.
“All the allegations made by the VIU players concerning our team and our coach should have been directly communicated to Pacwest managers alone, they should not have been downloaded publicly on social networks.”
The PACWEST then suspended Clagett in early February, and CBC lost its right to welcome the PACWEST championships after a conference investigation.
VIU finished first of the conference with a file of 21-1 and will now go to the national tournament as champion of the conference. CBC will have to be satisfied with a generic point.
