Islamabad:
The month of February 2025 saw a marginal increase in terrorist attacks, but a sharp increase in civilian victims, as well as a significant increase in the arrest of terrorists across the country, a Thinktank, based in Islamabad said on Sunday.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (Picss), last month saw 79 terrorist attacks, leading to the death of 55 civilians and 47 members of the security staff, while 81 members of the security staff and 45 civilians were injured.
“February 2025 marked the first month since August 2024 in which civil deaths have exceeded those of the security forces,” said Picss. He added that civilian deaths increased by 175%, while the deaths of security personnel decreased by 18% compared to January 2025.
In January 2025, 20 civilians were killed, while 57 members of security personnel were martyred. “The security forces have intensified their counter-mid-operations, eliminating 156 activists, injuring 20 and arresting 66,” Picss said in a press release.
Terrorist deaths fell 25%, – 156 in February against 208 in January. However, a significant increase in militant arrests was recorded in February, with 66 detained suspects, the highest monthly figure since 139 arrondissement in December 2023.
According to the Picss press release, 50 of the detainees were arrested from the former tribal region of administration by the federal government (FATA), while 16 others were arrested in Punjab.
Balutchistan has remained the most volatile province, recording 32 attacks that made 56 lives, including 35 civilians, 10 security staff and 11 terrorists. The attacks left 44 people injured, including 32 members of the security forces and 12 civilians.
KHYBER -PAKHTUNKHWA (KP) – Excluding tribal districts or the former FATA – recorded 23 attacks, leading to the death of 14 members of the security forces and 12 civilians, while 22 civilians and an equal number of security personnel were injured.
