Senator Faisal Vawda, chairman of the permanent senatorial committee for maritime affairs, allegedly alleged that a land scam worth 50 to 60 billion rupees was finalized during the current government mandate, with an agreement signed on July 9, 2024, more than 500 acres in the field.

The senatorial committee for maritime affairs has summoned for a meeting, chaired by Senator Vawda, with key officials, including the president of Port Qasim and the acting president of Karachi Port Trust also.

During the meeting, Senator Dinesh raised concerns about the absence of permanent presidents for the ports of Gwadar and Karachi, wondering why the actual officials kept the operations. In response, Vawda stressed the seriousness of the question, declaring: “We have three options: abandon, admit corruption or fight.”

He also argued that if the question of the flight of 50 billion rupees had not been treated quickly, the agreement would not have been canceled within 72 hours. “If everything was appropriate, why was he canceled in just 72 hours? Together, we saved 60 billion rupees from Pakistan,” added Vawda.

Vawda also accused Port Qasim of having made refutations to mislead by the media to obscure the facts and mislead the public. He stressed that the land agreement, involving 500 acres, had been signed under the current government, with payments provided for only 365 acres. He said that a two percent lead was paid for the field worth 60 billion rupees.

The Maritime Affairs Secretary suggested that the question could have been an error, but Senator Dinesh quickly answered, declaring that a privilege motion should be raised against the Committee’s Error Secretary.

Vawda firmly criticized the secretary’s defense, qualifying the theft of Rs 50 to 60 billion “not an error” but a serious problem. The additional secretary admitted to being aware of the issue, but revealed that they were part of the board of directors supervising the agreement. Vawda added: “I will remind the additional secretary of many things.”
