Nyt Strands Today (Game # 367) – Answers
The answers to today’s strands, the game # 367, are…
- BEAGLE
- PRIME
- TITANIC
- VICTORY
- MAYFLOWER
- Spangram: Historical ships
- My note: Moderate
- My score: 1 index
At 13 letters, today’s spangram was a giant snake that took an important part of the puzzle – and, wonderfully, it took the form of a ship, nodding to the response of historic ships. It is a great idea, but unfortunately that would only work in a few strands; If the NYT can assemble spangrams that look like a gluten or assignments, it is much smarter than me.
This probably says a lot about my lack of historical nautical knowledge that even if the only space I had left at the end was to Mayflower, I still tried to spell a ship called Wolfyamre, before seeing the evidence.
Of all the ships listed, only one remains intact today – the Beagle, on which Charles Darwin sailed, was broken; The premium was burned by mutineers; The Titanic struck an iceberg; And mayflower wood was used to build a farm.
Meanwhile, the HMS Victory, which was built in 1758 and participated in the War of Independence and the Napoleonic Wars, survived the ravages of time and was preserved as a museum ship in Portsmouth, England. I visited him during a school trip once. All I can remember is that someone stole my crowded lunch and I had to spend the day on an apple. Difficult times.
