The registration process for Starlink, a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, is underway in Pakistan, according to a press release from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Tuesday.

This development follows a meeting between the president and chief executive officer of the PTA (R) Hafeezur Rehman and the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2025 Starlink team in Barcelona, Spain.

The discussion focused on improving affordable high speed access, in particular in poorly served regions, in order to fill the digital fracture and accelerate digital transformation through Pakistan.

“The discussion focused on improving affordable high speed access, in particular in poorly served areas, to fill the digital fracture and accelerate digital transformation,” read the PTA declaration.

During the meeting, the president of the PTA reaffirmed the commitment of the authority to promote innovation and to allow emerging technologies for national connectivity.

He also confirmed that Starlink’s registration was underway with the country’s satellite regulatory organization, a necessary step for the PTA to grant a license for satellite internet services.

Starlink, which offers high -speed Internet access to distant regions around the world, has shared information on its satellite internet solutions and their potential impact on the distant areas of Pakistan. The two parties discussed regulatory executives and strategies for the integration of transparent service.

Earlier this year, the technological billionaire Elon Musk announced that Starlink had asked to launch his services in Pakistan and awaited government approval.

The Standing Committee on Information and Telecommunications Technologies ordered the PTA to eliminate the process to ensure that Starlink services are introduced in the country as soon as possible.

In 2022, Starlink approached Pakistan with plans to provide internet services by satellite, but questions with Pakistan Space Regulatory Authority are still in progress. Until the license agreement is finalized, Starlink’s services cannot be offered in Pakistan.

The PTA continues to work on the finalization of the regulatory process to provide Starlink services to the country, in accordance with efforts to improve Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
